Pottery-The Earthen Pots
“No matter where life takes you…
Don’t forget where you come from”
A potter was invited by Delhi Public School, Budgam from a nearby village Bugroo, Budgam to show the children process of making earthen pots(pottery).
Pottery is the process of forming vessels and other objects with clay and other ceramic materials which are fired to give them a hard and durable form. The place where such wares are made is also called pottery and the one who is an expert in this particular skill is called potter. Pottery is made by forming a lump of clay into objects of a desired shape through the pottery wheel and heating them to a high temperature.
Today we helped the children to connect with the past as it has been said one can only flourish in future, when the person is strongly connected to its roots. children from Nursery to 5th were fortunate enough to have first hand experience with the potter as he showed them the exact process of making pottery. Headmistress Ms. Shobhna Sirohi spoke about the amazing benefits of utility of earthen ware. She emphasized on the importance of eating, drinking and cooking in earthen wares as it seems bygone now. People have drastically switched to aluminium and other non-stick ware just to adjust to their fast life-style. She also mentioned that utensils made out of aluminium, plastic or non-stick ware are very harmful to our health. Furthermore, she told children to take this message to their parents as well.
The earth is rich in various vitamins and minerals. The earthen pots have the same properties as the earth consists of. These pots contain natural goodness and other health promoting qualities.
Let us ponder, let us re-visit our past, let us take pledge to build a strong connection of our future generation with their rich past. Let us promote such things on such level where our blooming buds can get some know-how of what they are and integral part of we – their torch bearers sometimes take such things forgranted.
“A people without the knowledge of their past history origin and culture is like a tree without roots”.
